Osram expects OLED to become a strong competitive to LED by 2018
The OLED Association has published a report stating that a recent Lighting Japan 2014 conference and exhibition Osram announced an OLED lighting panel with a 70 lm/W efficacy and 3,000 cd/m2 luminance for release in 2014.
The company said its goal by 2016 is to reach an efficacy of 110 lm/W while aiming at 125 lm/W by 2018. Once OLED technology and cost reaches this point, it will be able to become a strong competitor to LEDs.
Osram believes that OLED price/performance has a lot of room for growth and estimates that the current luminosity of 40 lm/W and brightness of 2,000 cd/m2 will reach 70 lm/w and 3,000 cd/m2 this year. By 2016 efficacy is expected to hit 110 lm/w and by 2018 hit 125 lm/W.
In 2011, Osram released an OLED lighting product featuring 40 lm/W efficacy and 2,000 cd/m2 luminance.
